Lapis Lazuli

Lapis (Latin for 'stone') Lazuli has been prized since antiquity for its intense blue color.  The finest gems have been mined in Afghanistan for 6,000 years. Lapis was prized by  Egyptians and used in amulets and ornaments such as scarabs.  Throughout history it has been used by artists for its rich blue pigment.
